Count Discrepancies

Why the total video count and the filter counts don’t add up

If you’ve spent time browsing the AcroYoga video library, you may have noticed something that looks like a bug: the total number of videos shown at the top of the page doesn’t match what you get if you add up the numbers next to each category, level, or channel filter. This is expected — here’s why.

1. A video can belong to more than one category

Many videos are tagged with multiple categories — for example, a single video might count toward both “Standing Acro” and “Washing Machines.” The total count only counts that video once, but it adds to both category totals. So when categories overlap, the sum of all category counts will naturally be higher than the overall total.

2. Some videos have no category, level, or channel at all

Videos that haven’t been tagged yet (no category assigned, no skill level set, etc.) are still included in the overall total, but they won’t show up in any filter group. This pulls the sum of filter counts below the total.

3. Small channels are hidden from the channel filter

To keep the channel filter list manageable, only channels with at least 5 videos are shown as filter options. Videos from smaller channels still count toward the overall total, but won’t appear under any channel filter.

4. Filter counts can lag behind recent changes

For performance, category/level/channel counts are cached and refreshed using a “Recount Now” button in the admin panel. If videos were added, edited, or removed since the last recount, the cached filter numbers may be slightly out of date until the next recount runs.

The short version

The total is an accurate count of every video in the library. The filter counts are a breakdown by attribute, and because videos can have zero, one, or several of those attributes — and small channels are intentionally excluded — the breakdown won’t always sum back up to the whole. This is normal and doesn’t indicate missing or duplicated videos.
